Lowther Castle and Park - Lowther Horse Driving Trials and County Fair are held here in August each year Set in magnificent rolling parkland beside the River Lowther crossed by two avenues of oak trees. The Castle was built in 1810 for the 2nd Earl of Lonsdale, with Gothic and Baronial architecture, the property is now abandoned having had the roof removed in 1956.

Penrith
, granted it's market charter in 1223 with a 14th Century Castle, shops, supermarkets, indoor swimming pool and climbing wall is approximately five miles from Askham.


The City of Carlisle, and market towns of Kendal and Keswick
are approximately 20 miles from Askham.


Ullswater
the second largest of the Lakes is easily accessible, with steamer trips, boat hire, fishing, sailing along with other water sports. Haweswater is also close by with fishing and walks around the shoreline.

Dalemain Historic House and Gardens
, near Pooley Bridge is open to the public a combined Georgian and Tudor house with 12th Century Pele Tower.


Brougham Hall and Castle
. The Hall built between 1830 and 1840 was a stopping point for the Royal family on their journey to Scotland. Currently undergoing restoration, was referred to as 'the Windsor of the North'. The Castle with a Keep dating back to c1176, curtain wall and gatehouse dated c1200 is described as the most impressive of the Lake District castle ruins.

Helvellyn (3118ft) the most frequently climbed mountain in the Lake District, with access along Striding Edge, described by Wainright as "the most exciting of all walkers routes in the Lakes".

High Street, built by the Romans between Forts at Brougham and Ambleside, it is the highest Roman Road in England and was used by the Legionaries to avoid ambush by the warlike Celtic tribesmen. It is now a much used footpath.

Wetheriggs Pottery
is a 19th Century Industrial Monument and remains the last steam powered pottery in the UK with 10 acres of grounds and gardens with art/craft exhibitions, pot throwing, plate and glass painting.

Rheged Discovery Centre. An international award winning visitor attraction. Europe's largest grass covered building is an inspirational day out for all the family.

Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre
- housing a large collection of hawks, eagles, falcons and owls is located in Lowther Park with flying displays twice daily.


Hadrians Wall and Border Region
is a short drive away and ideal for a day out, with Gretna Green visitor attraction and outlet village easily accessible.

Fishing in Ullswater and various local Rivers by permit, and Horse Riding from four local stables.
